Bring Your Kids to Work Day 2025

On Thursday 31st of August we held our annual Bring Your Kids to Work Day. This is its fourth year that we have proudly hosted the event with 10 children attending the largest to date, Despite much planning and practice – it still had its chaotic moments! A HUGE thanks to Sarah Dacre our Office Manager, Laura Oxley our Internal Recruiter and Zoe Fox our resourcing Manager for running this very special day… (we even think Laura has identified some candidates for the talent pool)

This is a day focused on engaging the kids with technology at a young age and helping them to understand the diversity of roles and responsibilities in a tech business and of course the vast applications of technology in today’s world. Themes in previous years have included: the history of communication, building communication machines and morse code. This year we shone a spotlight on the current hot topic AI, and of course showing the kids what we do here at TelXL and how their talented parents contribute to our success.

The concept of BYKTWD stemmed from the COVID era, a time when countless children suddenly had their parents working from home – “their territory”. Countless videos and memes arrived on the web around people at home trying to hide, distract or bribe children to stay out of the way as they juggled work life and home life at the same time.

We felt it was important to help the kids get a grasp of the important work their parents are doing here and create some empathy and understanding for the challenges they face every day.

This year's activities included:

  • AI Artistry – It turns out we have some very good AI artists that can replicate pictures with audio commands (though we suspect some peeking at the pictures occurred too!)
  • AI Navigation Bots - a challenge where a “BOT” (aka – one child blindfold listening to instructions!!) navigated around the office to find quiz questions – a little bit tricker due to the lack of left and right knowledge in some BOTs! The kids were astounded to learn that Nintendo was founded in 1889, a screw is a simple machine and loved a very catchy song about Algorithms.
  • TelXL BYKTWD bespoke IVR – who knew “the cat” would be the most popular Contact Centre Agent!

And finally, the obligatory golden arches lunch and TelXL cinema experience.

We were so impressed by the children and their inquisitive natures. It was a pleasure to have them here at the TelXL offices and to play a part in inspiring tech workers of the future. (Bring on BYKTWD 2026 … after decent time for Sarah, Laura and Zoe to recover!)
